How do you save money on entertaining when times are tight?
We have friends coming into town. They're staying elsewhere but wanted to meet up for brunch or dinner while they were here.
We told them we could (1) Go have lunch at a nice place on Friday with one of the best views in San Francisco or (2) Meet down where they're staying and have brunch/lunch on Saturday or (3) They could come over to our place and we could have dinner and a schmooze on Friday. Watch the parrots. Enjoy the view. It's a lowkey don't-need-to-dress-up just-us-folks dress code at our place.
The four of us opted for dinner at our place.
Dinner, even if we shoot the wad on ingredients and splurge on something special for our friends (and we plan to), will still be spending less than our half share of a dinner/brunch bill anywhere in town.
Entertaining at home usually beats the socks off price-wise of going out.
"Cozy" is in. And cheaper.
